The Little Match Seller
The screen-printed matchbox contains the story The Little Match Seller by Hans Christian Andersen. In order to question the function and design of a book, the short story is printed in invisible ink on ten folded sheets of paper. Heating each page with the flame of a match reveals the text, mirroring the actions of the main character who lights her matches in order to stay warm. Heat-sensitive ink is used on the box so that warming it with a palm reveals the image of a flame above the girl’s hands. Exhibited in the Anatomy of Reading at The Old Sweet Shop Gallery in Southfields, London.
