Screen-printed matchbox containing the story of The Little Match Seller by Hans Christian Andersen. The short story is handwritten in invisible ink on ten delicately folded pages.
Heating each page with a flame reveals the text, allowing the reader to mirror the actions of the main character who lights the matches she is selling in order to stay warm. In this way the book can be "read" using all five senses. The cover illustration utilizes thermochromic ink so that a flame is revealed above the girl's hands when a warm palm is placed on the box.
The piece was featured in the June exhibition entitled The Anatomy of Reading in The Old Sweet Shop gallery, London.
